Corinthians 12 - Young's Literal Translation with Greek
Law History Wisdom Prophets Gospels Acts Epistles Apocalyptic
And concerning the spiritual things, brethren, I do not wish you to be ignorant; | 1 περὶ δὲ τῶν πνευματικῶν, ἀδελφοί, οὐ θέλω ὑμᾶς ἀγνοεῖν.
ye have known that ye were nations, unto the dumb idols -- as ye were led -- being carried away; | 2 οἴδατε ὅτι ὅτε ἔθνη ἦτε πρὸς τὰ εἴδωλα τὰ ἄφωνα ὡς ἂν ἤγεσθε ἀπαγόμενοι.
wherefore, I give you to understand that no one, in the Spirit of God speaking, saith Jesus `is' anathema, and no one is able to say Jesus `is' Lord, except in the Holy Spirit.
And there are diversities of gifts, and the same Spirit; | 4 διαιρέσεις δὲ χαρισμάτων εἰσίν, τὸ δὲ αὐτὸ πνεῦμα·
and there are diversities of ministrations, and the same Lord; | 5 καὶ διαιρέσεις διακονιῶν εἰσιν, καὶ ὁ αὐτὸς κύριος·
and there are diversities of workings, and it is the same God -- who is working the all in all.
And to each hath been given the manifestation of the Spirit for profit; | 7 ἑκάστῳ δὲ δίδοται ἡ φανέρωσις τοῦ πνεύματος πρὸς τὸ συμφέρον.
for to one through the Spirit hath been given a word of wisdom, and to another a word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; | 8 ᾧ μὲν γὰρ διὰ τοῦ πνεύματος δίδοται λόγος σοφίας, ἄλλῳ δὲ λόγος γνώσεως κατὰ τὸ αὐτὸ πνεῦμα,
and to another faith in the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healings in the same Spirit; | 9 ἑτέρῳ πίστις ἐν τῶ αὐτῶ πνεύματι, ἄλλῳ δὲ χαρίσματα ἰαμάτων ἐν τῶ ἑνὶ πνεύματι,
and to another in-workings of mighty deeds; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits; and to another `divers' kinds of tongues; and to another interpretation of tongues: | 10 ἄλλῳ δὲ ἐνεργήματα δυνάμεων, ἄλλῳ [δὲ] προφητεία, ἄλλῳ [δὲ] διακρίσεις πνευμάτων, ἑτέρῳ γένη γλωσσῶν, ἄλλῳ δὲ ἑρμηνεία γλωσσῶν·
and all these doth work the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each severally as he intendeth.
For, even as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of the one body, being many, are one body, so also `is' the Christ, | 12 καθάπερ γὰρ τὸ σῶμα ἕν ἐστιν καὶ μέλη πολλὰ ἔχει, πάντα δὲ τὰ μέλη τοῦ σώματος πολλὰ ὄντα ἕν ἐστιν σῶμα, οὕτως καὶ ὁ χριστός·
for also in one Spirit we all to one body were baptized, whether Jews or Greeks, whether servants or freemen, and all into one Spirit were made to drink, | 13 καὶ γὰρ ἐν ἑνὶ πνεύματι ἡμεῖς πάντες εἰς ἓν σῶμα ἐβαπτίσθημεν, εἴτε ἰουδαῖοι εἴτε ἕλληνες, εἴτε δοῦλοι εἴτε ἐλεύθεροι, καὶ πάντες ἓν πνεῦμα ἐποτίσθημεν.
for also the body is not one member, but many; | 14 καὶ γὰρ τὸ σῶμα οὐκ ἔστιν ἓν μέλος ἀλλὰ πολλά.
if the foot may say, `Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body;' it is not, because of this, not of the body; | 15 ἐὰν εἴπῃ ὁ πούς, ὅτι οὐκ εἰμὶ χείρ, οὐκ εἰμὶ ἐκ τοῦ σώματος, οὐ παρὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τοῦ σώματος·
and if the ear may say, `Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body;' it is not, because of this, not of the body?
If the whole body `were' an eye, where the hearing? if the whole hearing, where the smelling? | 17 εἰ ὅλον τὸ σῶμα ὀφθαλμός, ποῦ ἡ ἀκοή; εἰ ὅλον ἀκοή, ποῦ ἡ ὄσφρησις;
and now, God did set the members each one of them in the body, according as He willed, | 18 νυνὶ δὲ ὁ θεὸς ἔθετο τὰ μέλη, ἓν ἕκαστον αὐτῶν, ἐν τῶ σώματι καθὼς ἠθέλησεν.
and if all were one member, where the body? | 19 εἰ δὲ ἦν τὰ πάντα ἓν μέλος, ποῦ τὸ σῶμα;
and now, indeed, `are' many members, and one body; | 20 νῦν δὲ πολλὰ μὲν μέλη, ἓν δὲ σῶμα.
and an eye is not able to say to the hand, `I have no need of thee;' nor again the head to the feet, `I have no need of you.'
But much more the members of the body which seem to be more infirm are necessary, | 22 ἀλλὰ πολλῶ μᾶλλον τὰ δοκοῦντα μέλη τοῦ σώματος ἀσθενέστερα ὑπάρχειν ἀναγκαῖά ἐστιν,
and those that we think to be less honourable of the body, around these we put more abundant honour, and our unseemly things have seemliness more abundant, | 23 καὶ ἃ δοκοῦμεν ἀτιμότερα εἶναι τοῦ σώματος, τούτοις τιμὴν περισσοτέραν περιτίθεμεν, καὶ τὰ ἀσχήμονα ἡμῶν εὐσχημοσύνην περισσοτέραν ἔχει,
and our seemly things have no need; but God did temper the body together, to the lacking part having given more abundant honour, | 24 τὰ δὲ εὐσχήμονα ἡμῶν οὐ χρείαν ἔχει.
that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same anxiety for one another, | 25 ἵνα μὴ ᾖ σχίσμα ἐν τῶ σώματι, ἀλλὰ τὸ αὐτὸ ὑπὲρ ἀλλήλων μεριμνῶσιν τὰ μέλη.
and whether one member doth suffer, suffer with `it' do all the members, or one member is glorified, rejoice with `it' do all the members; | 26 καὶ εἴτε πάσχει ἓν μέλος, συμπάσχει πάντα τὰ μέλη· εἴτε δοξάζεται [ἓν] μέλος, συγχαίρει πάντα τὰ μέλη.
and ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
And some, indeed, did God set in the assembly, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, afterwards powers, afterwards gifts of healings, helpings, governings, divers kinds of tongues; | 28 καὶ οὓς μὲν ἔθετο ὁ θεὸς ἐν τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ πρῶτον ἀποστόλους, δεύτερον προφήτας, τρίτον διδασκάλους, ἔπειτα δυνάμεις, ἔπειτα χαρίσματα ἰαμάτων, ἀντιλήμψεις, κυβερνήσεις, γένη γλωσσῶν.
`are' all apostles? `are' all prophets? `are' all teachers? `are' all powers? | 29 μὴ πάντες ἀπόστολοι; μὴ πάντες προφῆται; μὴ πάντες διδάσκαλοι; μὴ πάντες δυνάμεις;
have all gifts of healings? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? | 30 μὴ πάντες χαρίσματα ἔχουσιν ἰαμάτων; μὴ πάντες γλώσσαις λαλοῦσιν; μὴ πάντες διερμηνεύουσιν;
and desire earnestly the better gifts; and yet a far excelling way do I shew to you: | 31 ζηλοῦτε δὲ τὰ χαρίσματα τὰ μείζονα.
